Let me catch your breath…….sounds kinky doesn’t it? I promise you, it’s not. Read on and I’ll do a little explaining.
Anyone that reads Sugarloaf knows that I share my life with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I also have a healthy helping of fluctuating depression and anxiety……aren’t I the lucky one!!!!! Because of this I admit I shouldn’t work full time again.
Well at this stage, I couldn’t, but self care and pacing has become a priority in keeping me upright. I should however work at returning to the workforce in a diminished capacity, but in the meantime I am actively looking for ways of boosting my income…..after all, a girls gotta eat right? Especially one with an appetite like me!!!!!
Anyway, back to what I was saying………
Depression….yes that dark dog….and anxiety seem to come hand in hand, a little like Jack and Jill running up that hill…..not sure why I’m coming up with nursery rhyme analogies but there they are!!!!!
Anyone that lives with these 2 illnesses and their many variations and incarnations know that breathing plays a major part in assisting and controlling them. All those therapies like mindfulness, yoga and just breathing awareness to name a few.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking….we all know how to breathe!!!! Yes we do. There are also many apps dedicated just to breathing control and I am not in anyway saying they don’t help…….they do!
However, they cannot tell you when your breathing patterns changed or what triggered your increase in breathing, therefore your anxiety levels to rise at a particular time.
I have recently trialed The Spire to learn more about just that.
There is a similar device I have seen advertised on Facebook lately, worn as a bracelet. The Spire however is a clip on device and can be worn by both men and women discreetly or on show, depending on your preferences.
The secret is when you connect to The Spire app and see just when your breathing rates peaked. Remember, when your breathing goes up, so does your heart rate. usually your blood pressure too……and on it goes.
The Spire was designed by Stamford University’s Calming Technology Lab, so it’s not just a pretty belt clip, it actually has science behind it. When you connect to the app, which by the way is available for both iOS and Android, that is when the magic happens.
As well as all the graphics bells and whistles that show you what is happening with your breathing, activity and yes, stress levels, there are also guided meditations and breathing exercises right there within the app to use at anytime. And, as I am a skeptic by nature, trust me when I say I didn’t think it would help my anxiety……it did!!!
It was particularly helpful with tracking my social anxiety. Not sure what social anxiety is? You can catch up on my earlier post here .
The Spire is pretty too, it sits on a timber look disc to recharge, but unlike our phones, The Spire holds it charge for around a week. If only our phones and iPads would do the same.
Anyway, please check it out for yourself, I have a link added here on the page. And yes, should you go through my link and decide to purchase one for yourselves I will get a small commission……notice I said “small”…..I’m certainly NOT going to become a multi millionaire here……but as I said, every little bit helps.
Plus, I will still love you even if you don’t !!!!! But as I said, I will only tell you about something I trust and believe in.
Just as a sidebar, many psychologists and councillors are using The Spire for their patients. They purchase and then lend out for a week or 2 so their patients can see for themselves exactly what is happening with their bodies. They are reporting clear results in patient awareness and understanding.
Based on my own results my psychologist asked for the information herself.
The Hard Sell…….NOT !
All I ask, is you have a look. For me to be able to help you is and has always been my most important aim.
Anyone that knows me personally will tell you that when I’m excited about something, I talk about it……a lot. This has made me excited, purely for the benefit it brings. Everyone jumped on the Fitbit for their fitness, well The Spire is like a Fitbit for the mind….that to me is just as, if not more important. Just remember it costs nothing to have a look.
I would love to hear what you think. Please leave me a comment in the box below or feel free to drop me an email here at……
